First-Ever Calculator of Avoided CO2 Emissions for ITAD Industry

e-Stewards, a leading electronics recycling certification program, announced a strategic partnership with London-based Bloom ESG today to introduce a revolutionary environmental benefits calculator. This innovative tool provides the electronics recycling and refurbishment industry with a scientifically validated method to measure environmental benefits, starting with one of the most critical yet challenging metrics—avoided carbon emissions.
The electronics recycling sector has lacked a standardized, verifiable way to measure Scope 1-3 emissions and, more importantly, Scope 4—the carbon avoidance achieved through reuse and recycling. While demand for reliable ESG reporting has increased, e-waste processors have been forced to rely on non-specialized tools without an industry-approved methodology. As a result, large corporations have struggled to incorporate accurate emissions data into their sustainability strategies.
Now, for the first time, Bloom ESG has introduced an ISO-approved, independently verified methodology to address this gap. e-Stewards, established in 2009 by the environmental watchdog organization Basel Action Network (BAN), has endorsed this methodology as part of its commitment to fostering transparent, non-greenwashed environmental reporting.
The new co-branded Bloom + e-Stewards ITAD Environmental Benefits Calculator is available today. It will calculate your avoided emissions for ESG reporting. Future iterations of the calculator will be expanded to include additional environmental ESG metrics such as water usage, toxic material consumption, and overall toxicity footprint.

The Bloom + e-Stewards ITAD Environmental Benefits Calculator is the first of its kind, developed with direct input from leading e-waste processors and validated by a globally recognized audit firm. Its independently verified, ISO-approved methodology offers customers, an unprecedented level of insight into the environmental benefits of circularity in electronics recycling.
