Bloom and e-Stewards launch the first Critical Metals metric for electronics recycling reporting.

Share:

The electronics recycling sector has a new way to measure environmental impact — one that goes beyond carbon. Bloom and e-Stewards have introduced a Critical Metals Conserved metric within the ITAD Environmental Benefits Calculator, enabling recyclers and their corporate clients to quantify the recovery of high-value materials essential to the energy transition.

Environmental performance is no longer defined solely by emissions reduction. It increasingly encompasses resource efficiency, material recovery, and supply chain resilience.

What the Critical Metals metric measures

As demand for critical minerals accelerates alongside electrification and clean energy deployment, companies face mounting pressure to demonstrate not only emissions reductions but also responsible resource stewardship. The new metric enables processors and corporate clients to quantify exactly which materials are being conserved — and how much.

Unlike previous approaches built on modelled estimates or generic assumptions, this metric is constructed from primary data gathered directly from recovery processes and smelter operations — establishing a new benchmark for verified impact reporting in the circular economy.

What the calculator gives you

Critical Metals Conserved

Quantify cobalt, lithium, and rare earth elements retained through reuse and recycling — built from primary smelter data.

Scope 1–4 emissions reporting

Covers avoided emissions from circular IT — the carbon savings achieved through reuse and recycling beyond traditional Scope 1–3.

Order-level reports

Reports generated per order through Makor ERP integration — directly from operational workflows to client delivery.

Open to all processors

Available to all electronics recyclers and refurbishers — e-Stewards certified or not — across R2 and international standards.

Methodology underpinning every calculation

What industry leaders are saying

“Finally, our industry will have the missing link to individually show our worth to our customers and the world in terms of avoided emissions—the elusive Scope 4.”

Todd Zegers
CEO, CXtec

“Large corporations rely on our reporting to quantify the benefits of responsible recycling and refurbishment. e-Stewards’ endorsement of Bloom ESG methodology validates the environmental impact that is so important to our customers.”

Bob Houghton
CEO, Sage Sustainable Electronics

One year in: what the partnership has built

The Critical Metals metric builds on the e-Stewards and Bloom partnership launched in March 2025 — at a time when the ITAD sector had no standardised framework for environmental impact measurement. Within a year, the platform has gained traction across the US market, with integration into Makor ERP allowing processors to generate order-level environmental reports directly from operational workflows. The calculator now supports Scope 1–4 emissions reporting and consolidates environmental accounting across asset categories, critical minerals, and base metals.
