Bloom Launches First Carbon Avoidance Framework for the Circular Economy: New Certificates Unlock Verified Decarbonisation from Re-use and Recycling

London, UK – September 22, 2025 – Bloom ESG today announces the launch of the first carbon avoidance framework dedicated to circular economy projects, creating a new market for carbon insets that reward companies for reuse and material recovery.

The urgency could not be greater. Global e-waste generation rose 82% between 2010 and 2022, reaching 62 million tonnes in 2022, and is on track to grow a further 32% to 82 million tonnes by 2030. Demand for critical minerals is also accelerating: according to the International Energy Agency, demand for key energy transition minerals is expected to triple by 2030 and quadruple by 2040 under Net Zero Emissions scenarios.

Minerals have never been more critical to economic growth and a low-carbon future – never more scarce in the earth, yet more abundant than ever locked in our offices, garages, and drawer bottoms at home.

Urban mining presents a transformative opportunity: reducing dependence on extracting virgin resources and returning materials into the economy with fewer processing steps, thereby cutting emissions significantly.

Bloom’s new suite of environmental attribute certificates rewards companies and individuals that successfully source, process, and re-use electronic assets and hard-to-recycle materials like rubber.

“This is a breakthrough moment for circular economy markets. For the first time, corporates, OEMs, recyclers, and carbon brokers can access independently verified certificates that recognise and reward the environmental benefits of re-use and recovery”
Sebastian Foot, Founding Partner of Bloom

Bloom is introducing two flagship certificates:

  • I-TEC – recognising IT asset re-use and recovery.
  • I-MAT – recognising materials recycling and recovery.

Each certificate is independently verified by accredited third-party verifiers, in alignment with ISO verification requirements and international carbon market best practice standards. The certificates can be used by corporates as part of value chain decarbonisation strategies or as credible beyond-value-chain contributions to support new low-carbon economic models.

To accelerate adoption, Bloom has also launched a developer toolkit, enabling third-party project developers to propose, verify, and register projects for re-use and recycling.

“Scaling urban mining requires robust, standardised tools that enable participation and verification at speed. Bloom’s developer toolkit empowers innovators across the value chain to register projects, unlock rewards, and accelerate circularity,”
Amanda Bond, Founding Partner at Bloom

Bloom’s carbon inset registry and certificate suite provide the infrastructure to turn urban mining into a mainstream climate solution – unlocking new revenue for recyclers, new impact for corporates, and new opportunities for carbon brokers.
